If you are experiencing slow computer issues, do you know that you can troubleshoot the issues yourself? Here are some tips on fixing a slow computer quickly »»

If you are experiencing slow computer issues, do you know that you can troubleshoot the issues yourself? Here are some tips on fixing a slow computer quickly and easily to resolve your computer issues:
• Start with the hardware itself. Your computer may be running slow due to unnecessary files that are saved and occupy large amount of disk space. In fixing a slow computer due to unnecessary files, follow these easy steps:
1. Click Start. Go to all programs. Go to Accessories. From Accessories, Click System Tools. From System Tools, click Disk Cleanup. Tick all the boxes that appear, and then confirm the operation by hitting yes. This shall take out all the unnecessary files in your computer.
Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup
• Defragmenting your hard drive will also result to a faster computer experience, and will prevent computer crash. Here is how to defragment your hard drive:
2. Click Start. Go to all programs. Go to Accessories. From Accessories, Click System Tools. From System Tools, click Disk Defragmenter. Once you have enabled the disk defragmenter, it shall analyze your hard drive and perform the necessary operation.
Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter
• After your cleaning your hard drive, go to your anti-virus program to make sure that your computer is not infected. Slow connectivity is a symptom of virus infection. Fixing a slow computer will require that you have an updated and latest virus definitions or program installed in your system.
• Spyware programs have also the ability to slow your computer. An updated spyware program is necessary in fixing a slow computer. It is prudent that you have an anti-spyware installed as spyware hide in the background so it’s quite difficult to determine if your computer is infected. There are several spyware programs that you can download from the internet.
• In fixing a slow computer, it is too frequent that the main culprit is a corrupt registry or registry errors. The registry is the heart and brain of your computer. Whatever you do, like when you open a file or starts any program application, your computer has to communicate to the registry to pull them up. You will have to repair your registry errors to bring back the speed of your computer. There are several registry repair or fix programs that you can find and download from the internet. Most are easy to use with friendly interfaces. Find one that will work best for your needs.
If the above doesn’t resolve your concerns in fixing a slow computer, then you may have to unload your computer with some program applications, or if this is not a viable option, you may want to upgrade the physical memory of your computer. But this should only be a last recourse, after the tips mentioned above.
90-95% of computer issues are usually resolved just by cleaning and tuning up you’re the hard drive of your computer as well as fixing and optimizing the registry. It’s a good thing that the internet will make it easier for you to find good software program for this purpose.

Are your computers getting slower and slower each time you use it? Do you still acquire the same computer performance even if it is more than 5 »»

Are your computers getting slower and slower each time you use it? Do you still acquire the same computer performance even if it is more than 5 to 10 years old already? Well, if your problem is a slow computer performance I have some tips you might need to speed up the process. These tips will help improve your computer’s performance.

First, if your computer is too old I suggest that you burn your files that are less important. Place it on CD or DVD to give more hard disk and memory space. This will help lessen the files that your computer will need to read on. Like on the start up or when running some applications that will need to read the whole files in your computer. It slows the process due to the fact that your PC specs don’t have the capabilities of the new computers being sold in the market right now.

You can also upgrade your computer components to get better performance. However, if you don’t have money, it is not advisable that you buy CD, DVD or any computer components. Don’t worry because there are still other ways to accelerate the performance of your computer.

Some files are still in your computer even if you already uninstall the programs you installed before. Most of us didn’t know that, right? These files are left over by programs we used before. Now, these files are traceable using some free program out there. It’s not easy to trace them or sometimes we are not sure what files to delete so we end up having no choice but not to delete it. We don’t want to remove something we didn’t know because sometimes we are afraid that we might encounter troubles if we will be deleting these files. It might cause us some problems like the computer will not work properly because the files we deleted actually has a major part in our OS but we assume that it has no use. It happened to me before. So I suggest that you must try a Google search first before deleting the files.

Another way is by using programs like CCleaner. It is a tool you can use to remove unused files in your system. This tool allows your windows to run fast and free some space in your hard drive. It has the ability to clean your internet activities as well.

Next is to lessen the startup program. Remove unnecessary programs on startup so it won’t affect the speed of your computer while opening. Those startup programs make your computer slow while opening because your computer memory has to load those startup programs first. Your memory needs more time to do this that’s why it makes your computer slow. If your memory is not that high, I suggest doing this process to make the loading faster. Well, here is the way how you can lessen your startup programs. Click “start” then go to “run” or on the “search box” of your laptop, type “msconfig”. After that, you will see a pop-up window with lots of choices. Choose the “Startup” tab then uncheck the programs you don’t need to load when your computer starts.

Last thing I know is disk defragmenter. Disk Defragmenter is another computer program designed to increase access speed. Also known as defragmenting, this is the process of rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations. The objective of this process is to optimize the time it takes to read and write files to/from the disk. It can be done by minimizing head travel time while maximizing the transfer rate. Disk Defragmenter can also improve the loading time in system startup for computers supported by Windows XP.

Technology has advanced so much during the past few years that any entry-level computer is going to have more than enough “horsepower” for the average computer user. So the days of being concerned about the size of the hard drive and speed of the processor have pretty much passed into history. RAM (memory) is still vitally important so I would not recommend any new system with less than 512MB. 1GB is even better; and if you’ve got your eyeballs set on the full, bells-and-whistles version of Windows Vista, 2GB will warm the cockles of Mr. Gates’ heart. One topic I always encourage when giving out computer tips and help to shoppers is to purchase locally, if at all possible. Virtually every community has one or more reputable computer shops that build computers. There are many advantages of purchasing locally as opposed to going through mail order or online through Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq, etc. First and foremost, service is generally outstanding. A retailer that builds your computer will typically provide extraordinary service and support for all your computer problems, answers them in a timely manner, and realizes that their future business depends on their reputation within your local community. I usually purchase two new systems a year, each one built for me by a local computer builder/retailer. I’ve experienced first-hand through the years that if I have computer problems, answers are found quickly, with minimal or no “down” time, no 800-number calls to Banglagore, no bureaucracy, no messages that let me know how important my call is, only to advise me that my approximate waiting time is 37 minutes. In addition, many local computer builders will deliver and install your new system. Some will even copy data from your old computer to the new; and some will include an hour of training so they can show you how to use the CD-DVD burner or answer any questions you may have. But the primary benefit is cultivating a relationship with a local computer builder/repair service so that you’ll always have someone to turn to if a problem arises. If you purchase your new PC from a local retailer/builder, there’s also the benefit of keeping your hard-earned dollars right there within your community. You’ll be supporting the tax base while at the same time supporting your local merchants. How good is that?If you’re not sure who to go turn to for your new system, start making some inquiries; talk to friends, ask at local computer clubs for computer tips and help, and check the Yellow Pages and the business section of your newspaper. Keep asking and you’ll discover that there are always one or two names that continually come up. Another advantage of having a computer built for you is that you can get exactly the system you want. Or, if you’re not sure what you want, you can discuss with the builder how you use your computer and benefit from the builder’s suggestions and recommendations. When you purchase off-the-shelf or online from a national outfit, your brand-new system will generally arrive loaded with all kinds of software that you’ll probably never use. The first time you connect to the Internet, many of those programs will automatically register with their respective vendors which will open the door to pop-ups and nag screens galore, all inviting/harassing you to sign up for a variety of services, upgrades, etc. , which creates unnecessary computer problems. Answers to any issues like this will always be to buy locally. I’ve never understood the philosophy behind loading up a new computer with gratuitous software. To me, that’s like buying a new car that the dealer then drives for a thousand miles under the pretense of testing it out for you. By the time you get it home, it’s a used car! Why accept a new computer with a hard drive that’s already infested with software that you’ll never use and probably never even know what it’s for? When I purchase new computers, the only thing I permit to be installed is Windowsthough these days I prefer dual-boot Windows/Linux systems. This gets rid of many computer problems, answers all my questions about what was installed on my computer, and allows me to pick and choose what I want installed. By only permitting the operating system to be installed, and whatever drivers or programs are necessary for any peripheral devices I might purchase, I know I’ve got a squeaky clean hard drive and anything that gets installed on that computer will be installed by me. Doing this also ensures that I’ll never look at my Programs or other folders and scratch my head wondering, “What’s that program?”Another one of my computer hints, tips and recommendations is if your computer builder normally installs a plethora of programs, review a list of programs beforehand and tell the builder which ones, if any, you want installed. It’s your computer; you should decide what’s installed or not. Once I setup my new computer, then I’ll install a few of my favorite ‘can’t-live-without-’em’ programs, and I’m good to go. You’ll find a list of Mr. Modem’s Favorite Programs in my Web-based Library. Last, but not least, when purchasing a new computer, tips and help I always give out is to obtain the original Windows installation CD. Some of the big-boy retailers won’t include the installation CD or will place a ‘restore utility’ on a drive partition, which serves no useful purpose if you experience a drive failure. Obtaining the original Windows installation CD is rarely a problem with local computer builders. In most cases, it’s automatically included, but it never hurts to mention it, just to be sure. If you ever need to reinstall Windows or if a file becomes corrupted, or if you need to reinstall a component, you’re pretty much out of luck unless you have the original Windows installation CD.

In this modern era, high tech devices that are very expensive like the computers can be replaced with cheaper ones. Such cheap computers mostly come in the form of used computers. Used computers can be found in abundance in the used computer warehouses in various places, even in the local area of the prospective buyer’s residence. However there is no guarantee of quality when buying a used computer. The buyer has to take his own personal risk in doing so. But, if the buyer is ready to spend some money in upgrading the level of the used computer and also some time checking the quality of the used computer before purchase, it will save him from loss. Used computers can save a lot of money for the buyer when compared to buying a new computer. There are many who cannot afford to buy a new computer like the students who do not have any source of income but definitely require computers. For such people, used computers come as a boon.

Also, used computers need not always be second hand computers. They can also be recertified or refurbished computers. Refurbished or recertified computers are those, which are checked for any faults, if any corrected and sold with a warranty ensuring the working condition of the computer to be perfect. Hence, such computers are considered to be the safest form of buying a used computer. Refurbished computers can be bought from many of the online stores at very less prices. Quality computer manufacturers also sell such kind of recertified or refurbished computers. However, certain measures need to be taken while buying such kind of computers.

The prime aspect to be considered while purchasing a used or refurbished computer is to look for a good branded one. There are various companies who sell used computers or refurbished computers. The main reasons for opting for a branded one is that it comes with a warranty and also the buyer can be sure that the parts used are of good quality.

While buying used or refurbished computers related software documents, licenses and paperwork have to be got from the seller as this will avoid stolen computers being passed off as used computers to the buyer. If possible working for some time on the used computer will determine its efficiency. Most of the reputed dealers would allow the purchaser to use the computer for a shorter period to check the quality before purchase.

While checking for the efficiency of the used computer, it is good to check if the booting process is smooth, as most of the problems occur during booting and also to check all the sound drivers, video, graphics, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc. CD drives and hard disks also need to be checked. Another aspect is the support system offered for the used computer whether technical or non-technical, support staff capabilities and the number of support staff which determine the quality of service offered. If the purchaser is not satisfied, he can very well think of another choice.

Audio visual technology can be extremely beneficial in most environments, it can cut costs and help improve productivity because at the end of the day, it’s all about improving communications. In order to utilize AV technology, you must understand it.

Video Conferencing:

Video conferencing is one of the most effective ways to cut costs and improve productivity. Face to face communications is often needed to strengthen business relations but if your client isn’t local this may cause problems. Video conferencing is not a new technology but it is becoming more advanced and more affordable. An important half an hour meeting at the other end of the country can easily consume a whole day in travel alone, a video conference maybe just as effective and consume just a fraction of the resources. Video conferencing can also help improve communications in-house, particularly if an organisation has several offices, although telephone conferencing may be more acceptable in this circumstance, video conferencing can offer several advantages over telephone conferences including the ability to make presentations.

Digital Signage:

Digital signage is similar to video conferencing in that it is still communicating through a visual tool except digital signage is just one way. This can also be a highly effective tool. A reception area of an organisation may have a plasma or LCD screen displaying a welcome message and information about that organisation. A call centre providing services for several organisations may have screens to display stats like call waiting times etc. An organisation that has several screens throughout the offices can be handed over to the CEO to deliver important messages or presentations to the employees.

Costs:

Although new technology is often associated with a high price tag, this is not necessarily the case with AV technology. When you think of your return on investment, how much is the time you spend traveling to meetings worth to you and your organisation? How effective is your current form of mass communication to your employees or customers? If you just need AV technology as a one off, for a trade show for example, it may prove more cost effective to rent the required technology through a trusted event management company.

AV Specialists:

Like any industry you’re not sure of, it can be difficult to know whom to trust. Although there is no required accreditation scheme in the UK, an organisation in America called InfoComm, the have an accreditation system called Certified Audio Visual Solutions Provider (CAVSP), most reputable AV specialists in the UK have gained accreditation from this scheme, which assigns either a bronze, silver or gold level to their certificates. As with any new supplier, check for references, they should be proud to show examples of their previous work. Make sure they provide a full service. Although you can buy audio visual solutions over the internet, a specialist AV supplier or consultant will be able to understand exactly what you want to achieve from your new technology and design and build a system around that need. They will then integrate and project manage that system for you as well as providing any after care needed. Although you can buy your new technology in box form or over the Internet and it maybe initially cheaper, your long term ROI would benefit from an AV specialist.

Future:

One of the biggest worries an organisation might have when it comes to investing in any new technology is its shelf life. With new technology being developed all the time how do you know your new technology won’t be obsolete tomorrow? The best way to combat this is research, if you employ an AV consultant it’s their job to not only know today’s market inside out but tomorrow’s market too. The market is expanding, nowadays web cams are commonplace in the home, and the Internet is not only expanding the market in general but is developing global collaboration too.

As an owner of one of the internet cyber cafes in this world, I have come to know much about computers more than I used to know when I was still at school. In school we could find our computers already waiting for us and we couldn’t know the procedures the administrators pass through to make them run as they used to do.

After getting much time with computers everyday I now know why computers are sometimes slow. All computers are the same as long they are maintained by the person who can manage them efficiently. It doesn’t need you to first go for master’s degree in computer science to make your computer run faster. Just follow my simple explanations and your computer will be faster.

You should always avoid unnecessary start up programs . Whenever you install a program on your computer, I think you have seen that it tries to show up every time you start your computer. Let come what may, this will retard the speed of your computer. What you must do is always to avoid them to start without your knowledge because they are also using an unnecessary amount of RAM on your computer.

· The first thing to do is to run a disk clean up………… How do you do this?. .

Go to Start

Then to Programs

Then Accessories

Then to System tools and then lastly click on Disk Cleanup.

This will automatically show you all the files that need to be removed and the space you will gain after removing those files. .

· Ever heard disk defragmentation? The amount of the data you put into your computer is scattered on your computer hard disk and what is needed is to make it come together so that the computer doesn’t use a lot of force to get the expected data through different paths. How do you do disk defragmentation?

Go to start

Then to programs

Then to accessories

Then to system tools

And lastly to Disk Defragmenter.

This will show the possibility of first to analyze how your computer’s data is scattered on your computer and after analyzing it shows you how much space you are not using because of the fragmentation of data on your computer. Then you will have to defragment and make your computer faster.

· If you’re through with disk defragmentation, you can now go for registry congestion clean up. When ever you are on your computer especially using the internet, you always download programs from the internet. These programs are always on the computer registry and even if you delete them or sign them out, they are still in the registry and for that matter you need to clean up the registry to get the space for more downloads and quick access to your computer.

Lastly but not least, if you are using your computer to browse the internet, I think by now you have known that there are some free programs that can be used to clean your computer just by one click on your computer. For me I have been using CCLEANER for almost a year now and I haven’t seen any problem with at all.

What you have to do is, Go to Google and write install free ccleaner and you will be directed on how to download it. It will not take more than 5 minutes. To assure you this program will make your computer faster than before.

There are also good programs for cleaning that can be bought from TigerDirect. com. I mean if you have cash and you want your computer to work to the fullest, the go ahead and buy and if you are like me who wants to try the other way round, then follow the above guidelines about speeding your computer and I am sure you will give me a call once in a while to appreciate what I have written today on this article.

There is no doubt that these are tough economic times. Unemployment is high and credit is tight. Key indicates show that is the worse economy in a generation. Many technology transfer offices have seen potential business partners reduce their innovation portfolios and expenditures. This coupled with a reduction in funding sources, from grants and investors to university sources are blowing the technology transfer research commercialization efforts into the perfect storm.
There are difficulties and challenges, but these times also create opportunities. Here are seven tips to help your technology transfer office succeed in these tough economic times.
1. Maintain a list of problems that are relevant to the research and technologies in the pipeline.
Technology transfer offices typically get involved in research commercialization efforts late in the research and testing process. Get involved earlier in the process and start developing a list of problems of which the research can be applied.
This is really an early brainstorming exercise. Don’t just talk to the researchers. Get business input from those who are not involved with the research or the research teams. Independent ideas can be worth their weight in gold.
2. Develop long-term business relationships.
“Dig the well before you are thirsty. ”
-Chinese Proverb
Start developing business relationships with business leaders from a wide range of industries. Do this even before you have any applicable research or solutions for them. These relationships will pay off in two ways.
• You will have a better understanding of the types of challenges that these businesses face.
• When you do have promising research technologies and solutions you already have a relationship with the business or their contacts.
3. Pair researchers with business mentors.
Researchers think like researchers. Business people think like business people. Getting the two to communicate with each other versus talking to each other is a common technology transfer office challenge.
Providing a business mentor to promising research leaders will help alleviate this common problem. This continuous conduit will go a lot further than a long forgotten entrepreneurial seminar.
4. Develop alternative commercialization strategies early.
Good business people know that there is always a chance that their efforts may fail. Technology transfer officers know this too. Unfortunately, many researchers and inventors do not think about this, much less plan for it.
Most inventors think that their invention is world changing and worth millions. They have visions of establishing a company based on their research or technology, selling it for millions, and retiring in the lap of luxury.
The truth of the matter is that nine out of ten spin offs and startups will fail. You, can as the technology transfer officer can improve these odds.
I sit on the advisory board for some start up focused investment funds. One of the strategies that we have developed recently is to go for the big distribution partnering deal with large companies. When that doesn’t work – we find out why and have alternative proposals available.
This alternative could be limited distribution agreements on licensing deals. It really doesn’t matter what the alternative is. What does matter is that you get to stay in the game and get a return on the sunk costs.
5. Reduce risks for all involved.
It wasn’t that long ago that many universities shunned the entire technology transfer process. They wanted their faculty teaching and doing research, not commercializing their intellectual property. My, how times have changed.
Now universities love the revenue that comes from royalties and equity distributions and sales that are associated with intellectual property commercialization. Businesses are always looking for a competitive advantage and right now innovation is the soup de jour, except for one thing . . . RISK!
In order to get more businesses interested in potential technology look for new ways to reduce their potential risks. Right now cash is king. Instead of negotiating a lower royalty percentage, offer your potential licensor a deferred royalty agreement at a higher percentage. This is the business innovator’s version of “no interest payments for 3 years”.
This approach allows the business to conserve cash today and the university to reap more money in the long run. It’s better than the technology sitting on the shelf waiting to become obsolete.
6. Teach bootstrapping to your startups.
All technology startups need money. That is a known fact. The truth is that many could get by with less money than they think that they need. There in lies the art of bootstrapping. Bootstrapping basically means to start and operate a business without lots of investment funds. It requires the entrepreneur to focus on sales and to hold fixed costs to an absolute minimum.
Bootstrapping requires a unique mindset that few lead researchers turned entrepreneurs can relate to. It takes a special entrepreneur to be able to successfully bootstrap a business.
Help your lead researchers and startup teams. Get some experienced bootstrappers on your advisory and consulting teams and pass the knowledge on to your startups.
7. Partner with other technology transfer offices.
Technology transfer offices provide a valuable service to both the university and their research communities. They play a vital role in the economic development of their respective communities and states. Unlike many organizations involved in the invention commercialization process they do not compete.
Some technology transfer offices such as Stanford and MIT are the envy of their peers, however most technology transfer offices do not reside in a geographic area that harbors entrepreneurship in its DNA.
Partnering with other technology transfer offices offers many unique benefits that cannot be found though other means. It opens up dialogue and support for represented research and technologies to new areas and new commercialization ideas. It develops relationships with other potential business partners and fosters potential research synergies.
Targeted TTO partnerships can lead to specific research pairing with higher degrees of commercialization potential. This focused effort will, in the long run, yield a high degree of return on investment.
These 7 technology transfer officer tips can help you reduce your operating costs and increase your revenue generation success rate. It’s a win for society, the researcher, the business community, the university, and YOU!

1. Go Easy On The Display SettingsIt is very easy to get carried away with a wide range of visual options. While you might things that this makes your pc look good – it will also impact on the performance of your computer. If you get rid of some of those display options you will enjoy a computer that is faster and more reliable. So how do you fix a slow computer by changing the visual display settings? Find the control panel on your computer and click the system option. Go to the advanced tab. In the performance tab click on the settings. OK now you will see a wide range of options that can be selected. I would remove all and only leave the following as selected items. Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Show translucent selection rectangle, Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop, Use visual styles on windows and buttons Try out these different options and work out what is best for you. The main thing is to make sure you do not have too many options as it will make your computer slower. 2. Remove File Indexing You may not have heard of file indexing before – but enabling this option on your computer will slow your computers performance markedly. It uses a large volume of the RAM (Memory) on your computer. So – we suggest you disable this service and you will notice the difference immediately. If you go to ‘my computer’ and right click the C: drive. Then select properties and unselect the “allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching”. Then apply this change to C: subfolders and files and click OK3. Get Rid of Your Desktop Picture I know you quite like the picture of aunt Dorothy that you have on your computer desktop background! However, if you get rid of this image and restore default settings for your background you will improve your computer speed and performance. You are using a lot of memory to have this on your computer background. 4. Clean Your Computer RegistryYour computer registry is the powerhouse of your computer. If your windows registry is not free from damage and well organized, your system will become unbelievably slow and is likely to start freezing, and crashing. You should regularly clean your windows registry with and effective registry cleaning product to ensure that you computer is running fast and your registry is performing optimally. Visit www. fixaslowcomputer. com for details on top rated registry products and to perform a free scan of your computer registry to see if it is running at peak performance. 5. Clear your computers ‘prefetch’ folder What is ‘pre-fetching’? Well – this actually refers to when your computer will pre-load frequently loaded applications and data to ensure that your programmes start running faster than without prefetching. However, after you have used your computer for a period of time it will keep loading some stuff that is no longer necessary. You should look to regularly empty this prefetch folder to help your slow computer and ongoing pc performance. GO to the windows folder under your lodal hard disk X:windowsprefetch (X is the drive where you have Windows installed) or %systemroot%prefetch

6. How many fonts do you really need?Another tip on how to fix a slow computer is to ensure that you only have the fonts that you are actually going to use loaded. Additional fonts will use memory and computer power – especially TrueType fonts. Get rid of some of these by going to your control panel, visiting the fonts folder and moving the ones you do not require to a temp directory. That way you can bring them back if need be !
